Pervie Carroll Brinson was born on October 18, 1914 in Duplin County to Benjamin "Ben" Franklin Brinson and Caldonia "Donie" Duff Brinson. He married Lossie Edna Wood on May 8, 1937 and had 3 children. Pervie worked for the New Bern Police Department and retired in 1976 after 30 years with the department. Pervie died February 3, 1998 of leukemia, heart disease, diabetes and prostrate cancer. He always had many stories that he would tell me as a child growing up of the "bums" (bombs) whistling through the air and exploding all around him. He would tell me about the bombs and shells flying through the air at night lighting up the sky and looking like stars and fireworks going off. He was very proud of his time in the Army fighting throughout the war. He drove a light truck during the war and received 2 bronze stars for combat as well as many other medals.
